French Press
Hi, I’m Paolo from “Le Piantagioni del Caffè” and in this video I will tell you about French Press.
In 1852 a goldsmith and a merchant from Paris patented what may be called the rough ancestor of French Press.
In 1934 this patent was improved by the Milanese designer Attilio Calimani who, with Ugo Paolini, created this famous brewing device. The spread of French Press was facilitated by the Danish company Bodum which sold it throughout Europe.
In the United States, it is a widely used brewing device but it only spread in the late ‘70s.
We recommend it for our single plantation coffees Yrgalem and Alto Palomar.
The desired brewing temperature is around 90-93 Celsius degrees.
The coffee and water dose is between 72 grams per liter (in this case 36 grams per half a liter).
Also, the grind has to be coarse similar to sea salt and the total brewing time is about 5 minutes.
